Vishwakarma Government Engineering College, Ahmedabad was established in August 1994, with an objective of imparting higher education in various fields of engineering and technology. This institute is recognized by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and Institute of Engineers (India). The college is administrated by Directorate of Technical Education, Gujarat State, Gandhinagar and is affiliated with Gujarat Technological University. VGEC shifted to its own campus at Chandkheda, Ahmedabad in the year 2004.

The Placement Cell in Vishwakarma Government Engineering College has been operational, with the dual objective of imparting preparatory coaching to students and listening with the industry to arrange campus selections. The cell trains the students for facing the personal interviews successfully and supports in enhancing their interpersonal skills as well as communication skills. The cell is headed by a Professor, nominated by the Principal and supported by the departmental coordinators. This is a student-supported activity.

Thanks to the untiring efforts of successive Placement Officers and also to the boom in the software industry, quite a good number of graduates passing out of the college could get excellent placement in their final year itself.

TCS, Thomson Rueter, iGate, TechMahindra are some of the leading software companies visiting the campus regularly. Some other companies, both in public and private sector, like L &T Engineering, Essar picked up students of this college in campus selections in the past. The placement cell is doing its best to project the institute and to arrange campus selections.

The institute is located on Koba-Visat Highway which connects Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The college is well connected with both cities by various modes of transportation.

AMTS and BRTS: AMTS city bus and BRTS bus facilities are available to connect almost all parts of Ahmedabad. The direct buses are available from Railway station, Bus Station, Airport to the institute.
State transport: The buses of the Gujarat State Road & Transport Corporation (GSRTC) stop near the gate of the institute connecting all parts of the Gujarat State.
Railway: The major railway stations in Ahmedabad are Kalupur Central Railway Station, Sabarmati Railway Station and Maninagar Railway Station. The institute is well connected with all three railway stations through AMTS and BRTS buses.
Airport: The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport is located approximately 12 kms from the institute. The institute is well connected with the airport through local transport services.
