For the mass communication programme, candidates need to attempt 200 questions within 3 hours. The questions will be of objective type (Multiple-choice questions) and descriptive type will be asked. Make sure to thoroughly go through the answers before submitting them as there is a provision of negative marking.
The JMI Entrance Exam for mass communication will majorly have questions framed out of social issues, ethics & values, brand awareness & recall, social consciousness, lateral thinking capabilities, language skills, analytical & comprehension skills, general awareness about the development & public issues and more. The entrance exam for admission in courses offered at AJK Mass Communication Research Centre (MCRC) will have two sections- A and B.
Section A: will have objective-type questions, designed out of the following spheres:
National and International Political issues/ personalities
General Knowledge
Film, Television and other modes of media
Art, culture and literature
Section B: consists of descriptive questions. Informing more about descriptive type questions asked in section B of the entrance exam, the official website informs: “This paper comprises of essay type long answers which reflect the candidates' critical understanding of contemporary issues and the media. This paper also evaluates candidates' skills in visualisation, story-telling and their creative aptitude”.
Note: Once the candidate qualifies for the entrance exam, the next step is to appear for the interview.
Interview: This round is of approximately 10-20 minutes duration. Here, a panel from the mass media stream evaluates a candidate's knowledge on various topics -
Contemporary political, social, cultural and economic issues
Contemporary media
Fictional and non-fictional Films
General knowledge and the subjects studied at the graduation level
Visualisation skills and creative aptitude
Overall personality (confidence, way of speaking and presenting an answer etc)
JMI Entrance Exam Portfolio: When appearing for the interview round, aspirants need to carry their portfolio. The portfolio needs to be created in such a manner that it includes evidence/proof of media-related work as well as extra-curricular activities performed by the candidate post-school that is, at the college/university level.
The official website of AJK Mass Communication Research Centre lists the parameters based on which the portfolio of candidates will be evaluated. Some media-related activities that can be included in the portfolio are mentioned below:
Production work (audio/visual media-based)
Proof of participation in social activities (involvement with NGOs or social organisations)
Published work (Articles and stories etc., published in reputed journals and magazines)
Internship/work experience with a reputed media house
Participation in extra-curricular activities (debating, painting, music, theatre etc.)
